I have fluency in almost five languages now (not bragging, just leading up to my comment), and have found the best way for me to learn is to play a language CD in the car, or on my ipod when I am traveling. Instead of listening to the radio, I just listen to the CD. You can become fairly fluent (fluency is considered 2500 words for basic fluency) in about 3-6 months, if you listen and repeat about one hour each day. Good luck. By the way….Pimsler has the best CD’s in my opinion. Some Russian business associates told me my accent is better than their and that I sound like a TV announcer. You can find those CD’s in any bookstore. I would not recommend on-line language learning, since it is not comprehensive enough.

I used Berlitz School of Languages to learn Arabic.
Once I told them that I wanted to learn Arabic, my teacher wanted to know where I was going and he then specialized my language for the country.

I hope that will do. Good luck!
