Total Beginner : Better learn French or German in college?

I’m a highschool senior planning to learn either French or German as a minor in college.I have never learned either and would like to know which one is more useful in the field of International Relations/Economics I’m going to study.

    i would say german bcoz many countries surrounding germany such as hungary switzerland and poland and so on have language very similar to german…so Learning German could be useful since u can adjust if u go to any of the above mentioned countries also

    I’m a native French speaker but I would suggest German. Both are complicated and hard language but at least German is logical. If you are considering anything to do with Europe, both language are good but I personally think you could learn a decent basis of French on the side, which is impossible to do with German.

    The language that’s easier is dependant on what your native language is. If your native language is English, French will be easier than German by a little bit. And French is also one of the more popular “official” languages used in international relations and business. In addition, many important international papers are published in English and French. Lastly, many graduate programs (depending on the field, of course) demand that you have at least a reading knowledge of French (of course, some demand German. Some demand both, or neither…)

    So I’d recommend French.

    Someone here mentioned that German is similar to Polish. It is not.
