Learn French at Home

A lot of people learn to teach themselves different things…?

how do you teach yourself French? i know someone that speaks Fluent French, but i don't think that they could teach me. i want to Learn French pretty well by the time i'm 17, and I want to start now, if i take french at school, i'll have to wait until January, should i wait? if not, how do i teach myself?

You don't have to wait until January to start learning. Although it is a good idea to take French at school because you learn faster when you learn with others, you can start to teach yourself some basic French right now by borrowing audio cds from the local library. Pimsleur is quite good although there are other choices. There are dvds too if you are a visual learner. Or if you prefer software, Rosetta Stone is an easy to use software to learn French. The best way to get good at a language is to speak it constantly with someone who is fluent. So, do practise Speaking French with that someone you know as often as you can.

You can contact the "Alliance Française" nearest your home. They are a non profit organization where you can take french classes of high quality (there is a fee). They are all over the US (link for the US directory: http://www.alliance-us.org/fr/Directory.aspx )

With DVDs it is now easy to watch movies (such as Ratatouille?!) in French. First with english subtitles, later with french subtitles.

After you are able to say a few words, come over and visit France. This is a great way to learn. Try to talk to the natives as much as possible (for whatever reason). You could even take additional classes in the Alliance Française in Paris (also a good way to make friends).
I wish you the best with this great project. Bonne chance!
