French Beginners Lesson Plan?

french for beginners
marina999uk asked:

I have to teach an absolute beginner French for business purposes, on a one to one basis, and have a two hour slot to fill. I don’t know if we will have access to any audio equipment. This seems like a long time for me, has anyone got any ideas? I usually teach English but I have never taught any language at such a basic level. The student is Italian. I have googled but found a lot of dead links, has anyone any live ones?
Thanks musicguy, I had already planned to do that, but wanted to look at a set lesson plan, like I say, 2 hours is a long time!

Can anyone recommend an English-speaking job in France for a French beginner?

Sadly my French is just not good enough to get the same job as I have in UK.

Also to make it extra tricky, it needs to be at least £21000 to ensure I can pay for my loans each month.

I'm mid 30s, and now have 3 strong university degrees in Physics, Maths and Business (MBA) and after over 12 years in TV production, I'm very versatile, talented and can turn my hand to pretty much anything thrown at me.

Any suggestions?

You will find it difficult to get along in France without a good knowledge of French. Your English skills can be very useful in a variety of fields, including tourism, media, international business, etc. However, you will be expected to speak french reasonably fluently.

Translation and tutoring are two fields that tend to work for people in your situation. I know a few people (who have lived in other countries) that have taken this route.

Does anyone know any good websites that help ABSOLOUTE beginners learn French, Spanish or Italian?

It has to be FREE!

-For the 'absolute beginner' the website ''http://www.languageguide.org/'' gives a free comprehensive guide to the grammar, vocabulary and accent of the french language. All the lessons are filled with words which when hovered over, are acompanied by the sound of the word and it's spelling in english.

-The vocabulary section of the website presents the words initally in picture form, once again hovering over the pictures will produce the spoken version of the words.

-As you progress from the most basic starting blocks of the language you will find that the site allows you to attempt readings in french whereby the work is read out to you. As you follow the speaking you may hover over the script in front of you to get a quick translation as you are reading over the words.

-By the way this site is totally free and also has a burgeoning section to do with spanish, italian and german among other languages.

-This site is by far and away the best I have seen for the french language and presents the relevant infomation better than most text books. The site is also run by volunteers, who deserve a great deal of thanks for what they have given the internet.

-Learning a language is a skill that will benefit you for the rest of your life and I wish you good luck. Remember to take it slow and do a small amount every day. To get you motivated, here are some quotations:

-''The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step''
-''It's one small step for man etc.''
-''Just do it'' (thank you Nike)

Are college journalism majors required to take a language course such as Spanish/French?

Im hoping to go to Colombia University, NYU, or Brown.
My dream job is in televison and media and i really dont wana have to take anotehr year of spanish or more in collge. Please help!

it really depends on the requirements set for each school. check their website and find the majors section. you should be able to find the requirements to fulfill each major.
sometimes, if you continued on to a high enough level of spanish in high school, the university will allow you to use that to cover a requirement. again, it varies based on the school

Where can I get materials to study and get a certificate of proficiency in the french language?

I just want a quick program that is online or i can do at home at my own pace. I want to study the information provided and then take a test to certify that i am proficient in the language.

DLI, the defense foreign language institute in monterey California. that's where I got my degree from. also look up "Rosetta stone"
